According to SJSC „Electronic Communications Office”, due to the capacity of FM communications zone in Riga an additional frequency (95.8 MHz) can be only granted with a low radiating power, suitable for a non-commercial radio station only.
“When creating channel 5 for the youth, Latvian Radio was to include the already existing broadcasts from the NABA producers group in their programme. However, the creative ideas and concepts of the programmes are too different. NEMMC found a solution for LR maintaining the alternative cultural programme, which would suit the interests of all non-commercial culture fans, as it attracts a varied audience to LR in general”, says Dainis Mjartans, member of the Council of NEMMC.
LR6 radio NABA programme manager Madars Štramdiers says: “We, NABA and all our friends are happy to return to FM broadcasting. From now on, instead of wasting time on the fight for a permanent position in FM frequency, we will devote all our efforts to radio NABA creating a quality social media of culture, alternative lifestyle and urban intelligence environment. All this time we have been and will be audible and visible online, as well as in mobile applications. We would like to thank NABA’s creative group, our loyal listeners and the UL.”
According to the LR6 development concept, submitted to the NEMMC, this programme should promote and maintain the unique traditions of NABA in the genre of non-profit culture. LR thematic priorities will include the latest news in non-profit culture, alternative music, activities by nongovernmental organizations, live communication of history and science, and others.
LR6 is to resume broadcasting live the Saeima plenary sessions in Riga and its surroundings.
