From September 26, the „National Geographic” photo exhibition "NG ICONS” is open to public at the UL main lobby (19 Raiņa Blvd.). It is supplemented with an exhibition „National Geographic – bring the world into your home” curated by the UL Library.

National Geographic, official magazine of National Geographic Society (NGS), has been published since 1988, and is known worldwide for its detailed articles on science, technology, and world cultures. Until recently, the magazine has been published in 33 languages. Starting from this September, the Latvian issue adds to the number. To celebrate it, several events, organized by „National Geographic Latvija”, are to take place at the UL.

The exhibition „National Geographic – bring the world into your home” is one of happenings in honor of the new NG Latvija. It provides an opportunity to look back at the events in world history, allowing to assess the development of the world and civilization from the early 20th century to the present day.

The exhibition presents unique magazine copies from the UL Library collection, the oldest ones published in 1915. These magazines are special with travel descriptions from the time back then, black and white photographs, and color drawings. Visitors will be able to trace visual changes of the National Geographic, and to explore various interesting features and attachments of the magazine – vinyl records, maps, holograms, etc.

The exhibition of photos and magazines will be on display until October 13.
