This ranking was drawn up for the first time, assessing universities from 30 Eastern European and Central Asian countries. Universities from 18 countries of these regions were included in the Top 100. Among them there are also three Latvian universities - University of Latvia (rank 41), Riga Technical University (rank 61 - 70), and Riga Stradins University (rank 91 - 100).
Russian universities dominate the university Top 100, represented by 26 public higher education institutions with Lomonosov Moscow State University ranking the first. The 2nd place is shared by Charles University (Czech Republic) and Novosibirsk State University (Russia). According to the QS University Rankings ten Czech and ten Turkish universities made it into the Top 100.
Already for the 10th year QS Quacquarelli Symonds published the QS World University Rankings, also listing the UL. It is the second year in a row that UL as the first and currently the only higher education establishment in Latvia has been included in this ranking, in position 701 - 800. It means that the UL is among the 5% of the world's top universities. QS (also in breakdown by subject) offers global, as well as Asian and Latin American university rankings.
