Patron Dzintra Uibo says, “I am happy that this scholarship has been granted to the Estonian student. It will certainly be of great support in the brilliant beginning of her studies and future academic achievements. Foreign students are becoming more and more appreciative of the education opportunities in Latvia. I am pleased that we are able to support foreign students whose short-term or long-term career could lead to work in medical establishments in Latvia.”
Anna Saaremets has proven her excellence and commitment to studies receiving the highest average grade of 8.64 among all 1st-year students of the UL Faculty of Medicine. She is an Estonian citizen and has previously studied and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in biomedicine in Great Britain. Anna is currently a 2nd-year student of the UL Faculty of Medicine, and keeps proving her dilligence. Academic year 2012/2013 has been successful not only for the scholarship recipient, but also for other medical students with close-to-excellent results.
“I never thought that life would bring me to Latvia, but a year ago my dream came true, I started my studies at the Faculty of Medicine. It is a great advantage to study medicine at the University of Latvia because the best classical traditions are closely observed here; besides, the study work is organised in small groups. That ensures a close cooperation between students and academic staff. I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve received here in Latvia, at the University, the University Foundation and from patron Dzintra Uibo. This scholarship is an additional motivation for me and my fellow students,” says University of Latvia Foundation Excellence Scholarship recipient Anna Saarements.
The Excellence Scholarship is a financial aid awarded to the best 1st-year students of the UL Faculty of Medicine second-level professional higher education programme, intended to encourage striving for excellence in studies. The scholarship was open to any 1st-year student of the programme with an average grade exceeding 7.5.
