On April 24 Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of the University of Latvia is receiving a group of 43 students from Stanford University in Berlin, Germany, mainly from field of political science with a focus on European Studies.

The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of the University of Latvia together with European Studies Master Programme will organize a roundtable discussion with American students and their supervising professor from Stanford University in Berlin covering several topics in relation to Latvia as a member state of the European Union. The roundtable discussion will take place on April 24, 2013, from 10:00 to 11:30 at the European Commission Representation in Latvia, “EU House”, Aspazijas Boulevard 28, Riga.

During this visit students from Stanford will have meetings at the University of Latvia, Central Bank of Latvia, other institutions as well as students and members of youth organizations in Latvia. Stanford University in Berlin is one of ten overseas campuses run by the Bing Overseas Studies Program of Stanford University in United States. Stanford in Berlin hosts Stanford students of all majors. Students come to Berlin for periods of 3-9 months of study and optional, subsequent internships. Trips to new and prospective member states of the European Union are part of extracurricular activities, which gives students the opportunity of more practical experiences of different EU dimensions. Group of students from Stanford University in Berlin have already visited Latvia in 2005, when they had a chance to meet president of the Republic of Latvia H.E. Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga.
