Ceremonial events of the 95th anniversary will take place on Saturday, September 27. Ecumenical service in Riga Dome Cathedral will start at 10.00. The service will be conducted by Archbishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia Jānis Vanags with the participation of Zbigņevs Stankevičs, Metropolitan Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church of Riga. Leaders of other major religious denominations are also invited to participate in the event. Mixed choir of the University of Latvia Juventus and choir of the UL alumni Jubilate will sing at the ceremony.
The Ceremonial UL Senate meeting dedicated to the 95th anniversary will take place at the Great Hall of the University of Latvia at 13.00. The Senate will welcome the new Honorary Members of the UL: Roberts Blumbergs, UL patron and chairman of the Board at Friends of University of Latvia, patrons of the UL and UL Honorary Doctorates Boriss and Ināra Teterev and Emeritus Professor Dainuvīte Blūma. Kalvis Torgāns, Professor at the UL Faculty of Law, and Skaidrīte Lasmane, lead researcher at the UL Faculty of Social Sciences, will be presented with the highest UL award Gold Emblem. The University of Latvia continues its tradition of honouring the new holders of doctoral degree at a Doctoral Promotion Ceremony. The Academic Ball dedicated to the UL 95th anniversary will be held in the evening at the Small Hall and the Great Hall of the University.
Honouring the UL 95th anniversary, the UL Library and the UL Academic Library have organized an exhibition displaying their cultural and historical treasures - for the first time all together in one place. Treasures of the Libraries opening ceremony will take place at the UL Library (4 Kalpaka Blvd) this Thursday, 25 September at 14.00. The public will have a chance to see the unique treasures of both libraries: parchments, engravings, graphic productions, maps, manuscripts, printed materials and other unique records of the era.
On Friday, 26 September, Hobbies of the UL Scholars exhibition will be opened in the Entrance Hall of the main UL building at 19 Raiņa Blvd. An event dedicated to the questions of civic engagement What Bugs You? (Kas urda cilvéku?) will be held during the Researchers' Night at the Science café at 19 Raiņa Blvd at 19.00. The UL in cooperation with the UL Radio NABA invites everyone to visit the event hosted by the UL young scientists at the creative information space Esplanāde 2014. The young scientists will entertain visitors with exciting live experiments.
A number of events dedicated to the UL 95th anniversary will take place until the end of this year, among them, celebration anniversaries of UL faculties, annual alumni meetings, conferences and many more.
