The organizers of the satellite festival Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Latvia and Polish Embassy in Riga invites everyone to the screenings.
The satellite festival will also offer a chance to meet young Polish filmmaker Aleksandra Terpińska, who was one of the “Short Waves” winners last year as well as a recipient of several Polish and international film awards. Aleksandra will travel both to Rīga and Daugavpils, where her short film “All Souls Day” will be screened along with the festival program films. “Films are one of the bridges of culture,” says Inta Brikše, Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Latvia, “It provides an opportunity for us to learn how others see the world and what life is like in places, where we are not present.” “Short Waves” is an initiative by Polish AD Arte Foundation and from March 30 – April 6 it will take place in Poznan, Poland already for the sixth time. On March 27-28, Rīga and Daugavpils will be two of the world cities, where the satellite festivals will be organized. In Latvia, the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia and the Embassy of Poland in Riga organizes these events in cooperation with Polish Culture Centre in Daugavpils and Multikino. Festival screenings in Latvia are possible thanks to Weronika Drzewińska, a young Polish filmmaker, who attended Riga Summer School 2013, a program offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia. In February, an agreement between the Rector of the University of Latvia Mārcis Auziņš and the Ambassador of Poland to Latvia Jerzy Marek Nowakowski was signed on organizing these events.
