Conference “Innovative Materials for the Development of the Baltic Region National Economy” will be held on December 16 at the University of Latvia, 1 Jelgavas Street. The conference will bring together world-class experts in material sciences to facilitate innovations and Latvia’s involvement in collaboration in the Baltic Sea Region.

The conference will be opened on December 16 by Prime Minister of Latvia Laimdota Straujuma, President of the Latvian Academy of Sciences Ojārs Spārītis and Rector of the University of Latvia Prof. Indriķis Muižnieks. Among the conference speakers are local and international experts, including Dr Milan Zmitko (Spain), Prof. Sergey Kubatkin (Sweden), Prof. Sigitas Tamulevicius (Lithuania), Dr Frank Brückner (Germany), Prof. Mart Tamre (Estonia).  The conference takes place within the Seed Money project, which is financed by the EU Baltic Sea Region Secretariat and aims to create a collaboration platform in material sciences in the Baltic Sea Region. It will secure favourable conditions for innovation and for development and manufacturing of new, marketable materials. The idea for the conference was suggested by Prof. Indriķis Muižnieks, Rector of the University of Latvia, Andrejs Ērglis, Chief of the Latvian Cardiology Center and Prof. Tālis Juhna, Vice-Rector for Research of Riga Technical University. Project partners and conference organisers are the Latvian Academy of Sciences, the University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, German Fraunhofer Institute, Kaunas University of Technology, Tallinn University of Technology and Baltic Innovative Research and Technology Infrastructure (BIRTI).
