The Language Centre of the University of Latvia would like to invite academic staff and employers, as well as organizers of studies of higher education institutions and students to attend and participate in the International Scientific Conference “Language environment in university: accessibility, quality, sustainability”.

The conference will take place on 9 – 10 May, 2014 in Riga. The aim of the conference is to raise the visibility of languages in the modern intercultural and globalized conditions in higher education. All over the world university language centres provide for the exchange and implementation of language learning ideas and the conference is the contribution of the Language Centre of the University of Latvia to the exchange in the year of its 20th anniversary. We are particularly glad to invite you to visit Riga in its year of the European Capital of Culture and along with our conference to enjoy the variety of events offered by the status. Keynote speeches of the conference will be presented by Jānis Sīlis, Dr.philol., Professor of Ventspils University College and founder of the Language Centre of the University of Latvia; Olga Visnyakova, Dr. philol., Professor of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Markus Häfner, Dr. philol., University of Latvia Language Centre guest speaker, director of DAAD Information Centre in Riga and Antti Hildén, MA, Language Centre Director, University of Tampere. The conference sections will cover the following:

  3. The quality of teaching and learning language for specific purposes (LSP)
  4. Lifelong language learning
  5. Methods of learning LSP
