The main topic of Riga Summer School – a hands-on documentary filmmaking program for international jouralism, media and film students – in 2015 will be “Change in Riga”. Students will work on their documentaries in small creative teams and will try to capture what and how has changed in the neighborhoods of the Latvian capital over time.

The fifth anniversary edition of the Riga Summer School will feature lectures and workshops about the visual identity and film, as well as provide an opportuntity for teams of students to explore what changes have taken place in Riga. This year the school offers lectures and workshops by Dr. Viktors Freibergs, Zane Peneze and Ieva Ozoliņa. Dmitrijs Ščegoļevs and Pēteris Sudakovs will work as instructors for producing short documentaries. Riga Summer School this year will welcome students representing the Netherlands, Romania, Kyrgizstan, Russia, Italy, Spain, Germany, Ukraine, Albania and Latvia. Besides lectures and fieldwork, students will also enjoy a rich cultural and social program. The Department of Communication Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Latvia organizes the summer school in the Latvian capital from August 1 – 9, 2015.
