University of Latvia Laboratory for Mathematical Modelling of Environmental and Technological Processes will present the results of Estonia – Latvia cross border cooperation project „GORWIND” in the exhibition „Environment and Energy 2012”, 18–21 October Kipsala International Exhibition Centre.

The project provides decision makers and prospective developers of wind parks in Gulf of Riga with scientifically verified information about sea wind. The information is obtained from high resolution remote sensing data, coastal wind measurements and regional climate models. The specialised mathematical modelling approach will provide an opportunity to implement the analysis required for development of wind energy production in other coastal and inland locations of Latvia. The project also provides information about seal habitats, and locations which are used by birds during wintering, migration and breeding. The mapping of acceptable locations for wind parks was implemented with sociological survey during 2011, which included the requirements of local governments regarding the potential renewable energy production locations. More information available at www.modlab.lv/lv/gorwind_eng.php The project is financed by Estonia-Latvia Programme and Environmental Investment Centre (KIK), Estonia. Estonia - Latvia Programme is implemented according to the principles of the European Territorial Cooperation and it supports cross-border cooperation between Estonia and Latvia. The programme is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Republic of Estonia and the Republic of Latvia.
