On 15-16 October in Brussels, UNICA - Network of Universities from the Capitals of Europe celebrated its 25th founding anniversary.

Established in 1990 on the initiative of Université libre de Bruxelles, the Network started as a small group of 15 universities with a need for networking and cooperating, building on their distinctive feature of location in European capital cities. It currently brings together 46 member universities from 35 European capitals, including the University of Latvia, and has a combined strength of over 1,800,000 students and 150,000 staff. On the occasion of its 25th birthday, UNICA released an anniversary video which, through a series of animations and short interviews, shows the Network's 25-year journey from the very beginning to present. Watch the UNICA anniversary video here The programme of anniversary celebrations included a Seminar "The role and impact of university networks in the 21st century" which was held at Vrije Universiteit Brussel on 16 October. The Seminar gathered representatives of UNICA member universities and leaders of other networks and associations active in the European Higher Education Area, such as the European University Association (EUA), Coimbra Group of Universities, Association of Arab Universities (AARU), and Erasmus Student Network (ESN).
