International students invite to the world premieres of short films about Riga

Participants and organizers of Riga Summer School 2015 invite inhabitants and guests of Riga to the world premieres of their short documentaries about the neighborhoods of the Latvian capital on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 19:00. The film screening and the summer school graduation ceremony will take place at the Social Sciences Faculty of the University of Latvia, Lomonosova iela 1A, Riga. Entrance to the screening is free.
The main topic of Riga Summer School in 2015 is “Change in Riga”. Students from the Netherlands, Romania, Kyrgizstan, Russia, Italy, Spain, Germany, Ukraine and Latvia have been researching and working on three short films about the Old Riga, Latgale suburb and the Riga Central Market, trying to capture what and how has changed in these neigborhoods over time. In all five years of the Riga Summer School, the participants have produced total of 28 short films and clips about various parts of Riga.
In 2015 besides filmmaking Riga Summer School also featured lectures and workshops about the visual identity and film by Dr. Viktors Freibergs, Zane Peneze and Ieva Ozoliņa. Dmitrijs Ščegoļevs and Pēteris Sudakovs worked as instructors for producing short documentaries. Besides the film and lectures, international students also enjoy a rich cultural and social program, including neighborhood visits in Riga and Jūrmala, International Food Evening, Baltic Film Evening and others.
Riga Summer School is a hands-on documentary filmmaking program for international jouralism, media and film students, organized jointly by the faculty and students of the Department of Communication Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Latvia. This year it takes place from August 1 – 9.
