In 2008 a bilateral agreement was signed between Université Paris-Est Créteil Val de Marne and the University of Latvia regarding the possibility of acquiring a double-diploma for students of both universities. A maximum of 5 students from each university has the opportunity to acquire a diploma from the respective partner university. In 2008 the first French student took this opportunity and received his diploma in the spring of 2010. During the academic year 2010/2011, the first Latvian student to receive the double-diploma in France was Lāsma Rumpeja: “The main reason why I chose this study program was the wonderful opportunity to obtain a double-diploma in just two years, one from the University of Latvia and the other from Université Paris-Est Créteil Val de Marne. It also gave me international experience – studying together with people from different cultures and learning from lecturers not only from Latvia and France but also the USA.”
This was the sixth time master’s students defend their theses and, as a result, 4 students from France received a professional Master’s Degree in entrepreneurship. Students are very satisfied with this opportunity; they believe this will grant them a substantial advantage in both the domestic and foreign labour markets. Students were very grateful for this 2 year experience and for the chance to take part in the UL Faculty of Economics and Management organised conference, where they talked about the experience and skills they obtained while conducting research.
Afterwards the deans of both faculties prof. Inta Brūna and Jean David Avenel expressed satisfaction regarding their cooperation and discussed future plans. The director of the program prof. Baiba Šavriņa also emphasized the indirect but very crucial effect this has on business relations and national economics. According to graduates of this program Nicolas Urgin and Lionel Garcon, when it comes to developing business relations in everyday work, Latvia is very preferable.
