Now, 21 year after the collapse of the Soviet Union, it is essential to have a scholarly discussion addressing the manifold consequences of the Baltic memory politics of the 1940s. The aim of our multidisciplinary symposium is to provide scholars interested in the memory culture of the Baltic States with an opportunity to explore how these countries have been coming to terms with the history of the 1940s.

 has been the centerpiece of the social memory of the Baltic States. And memory politics has largely evolved around this decade. Yet social changes beginning in the 1990s onwards have gradually transformed the social memory of this traumatic/heroic past.){kind=link}
