On September 28, the UL will be delighted to host the Researchers’ Night. During this Night “cold water will be poured”, rockets will be launched, energy will be explored, auras will be viewed and etc., thus getting acquainted with science in everyday life and everyday science.

Everyone interested in space exploration should visit F. Zander’s Memorial Museum of Space Explorations, Raiņa Boulevard 19, where the 125th anniversary of one of the first world’s rocket builder Friedrich Zander will be celebrated (rockets will be surely launched). Whereas the Faculty of Biology provides possibility to learn more about microorganism “energy”; shows and toxicity tests are expected. The Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences offers everyone to bring and make quality analysis of water samples in a lab. But those interested in practicing the ability to not talk to the point, should go to the Faculty of Economics and Management, where a “water-pouring” event in three acts is going to take place. There will be also a contest in “generating more heat than light” - lecturers and students against visitors. A wide and interesting programme in connection with water, its usage and perception in different times is offered by the Faculty of History and Philosophy. Furthermore, lectures on water-related themes in the Baltic languages, literature and art will take place at the Faculty of Humanities. These are only several events that are offered at the UL on the Researchers’ Night. For full programme and directions, visit the Researchers’ Night web page. On September 28, Researchers’ Night annual event - “A Story of Energy” will take place simultaneously in eight Latvia’s cities - Riga, Jelgava, Daugavpils, Rezekne, Ventspils, Salaspils, Valmiera and Cesis. The Researchers’ Night is the European Commission sponsored project organised by the Latvian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with Latvian universities, science institutes and museums. In Latvia, this event has been organised already for the 7th time. Thus Latvia joins the team of those many European countries - the European Researchers’ Night organisers, which at the end of September organise different events in over 200 European countries in order to explain science achievements in a funny way and let people learn more about science laboratory work secrets. This year the Researchers’ Night events in Latvia have been related to power engineering, giving the insight into different ways of producing and using energy. On September 28, scientific institutes and faculties of universities will be opened for everyone to take part in scientific experiments, get involved in discussions, ask questions to scientists and feel the scientist’s everyday life, rediscovering achievement results of different sciences, without which our present life cannot be imagined. Visitors will be able to get acquainted with new technologies and innovative ideas, which can soon become an integral part of our life.
