Every year in autumn, scientific institutes of Latvia open doors to the public to show the beauty of natural sciences. The main idea is to show interesting experiments and natural phenomena to everyone who is willing to learn more about science and nature itself. This series of events is called “Science Night”. The University of Latvia faculty of economics and management also took part in the endeavour by organizing one such event titled and themed “Crystals”.
This year was special in particular due to the large amount of participants ranging from high school students to foreign university students. All of the participants actively took part in the FEM organized games and competitions.
Some of the activities include – demonstrating the capabilities of a 3-D printer by attempting to print crystals, business idea competitions (participants tried to pitch their ideas to potential investors), a multiple stage production game, where jewellery was made using crystals. Both the spectators and the participants could witness the effects of specialization and assume the role of a manager who was faced with the problem of having too many workers. Participants received were rewarded for their effort by the University of Latvia faculty of economics and management and holding company Latfood.
Foreign students studying at the University of Latvia FEM also contributed to the event by creating posters and presenting the various methods of acquiring crystals used in different regions of the world for commercial purposes.
The University of Latvia faculty of economics and management would like to thank everyone involved in the organisation and the participants for making this event possible.
