Experts of the European Commission (EC) Directorate General for Education and Culture have chosen the project “Social Work in the Field of Criminal Law” as a “success story”. The project was realised with the participation of the Advanced Social and Political Research Institute of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Latvia and the State Probation Service.

The project was implemented from October 2012 to October 2014 under the guidance of the Avans University of Applied Sciences (The Netherlands). The aim of the project was to improve the training of probation officers in Europe, and to prepare training materials for bachelor, masters and professional study programmes on working with involuntary clients. The status “success story” granted by the EC Directorate General for Education and Culture signifies that the project is completed, and its influence on and contribution to the development of policy, innovative results and/or creative approach to achievement of goals can inspire others. The project selection is based on strict project quality, significance of results and conformity criteria. The partners of the project: Utrecht University (The Netherlands), University of Bucharest (Romania), University of Strathclyde (United Kingdom), De Montfort University (United Kingdom), University of Latvia, the National School for Correctional Administration of France, University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne (France), Maltepe University (Turkey), and probation services of the Netherlands, Norway and Latvia, as well as the European Probation Organisation.
