On Friday, 16th June 2023, the University of Latvia organized a "Rural Youth Future" kick-off meeting with Latvian stakeholders.

Participants from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia, Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Centre, Kurzeme Planning Region, Vidzeme Planning Region, Latvian 4H (Latvijas Mazpulki), organisation “Piedzīvojuma Gars", youth representatives and others got together to discuss the key challenges and needs, examples of good practices and directions of the youth policy improvements in Latvia.

The main issues discussed were:

  • work of municipalities with youth
  • access to non-formal education
  • less attractive job opportunities for youth living in remote areas
  • mobility options between smaller areas
  • lack of tools to investigate the needs of youth.

About "Rural Youth Future" project

The main goal of the project is to support the education and employment of young people, with a specific focus on the needs of those young people who reside outside of urban areas, by improving the existing policy and developing new initiatives to address existing problems. In the case of Latvia, it is planned to evaluate the Children, Youth, and Families Guidelines for 2021-2027, as well as seeking opportunities to  transfer various good practices, assesing the experience and activities of the project partners in similar fields.
