The Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia is a humanities research institution in Latvia that promotes the development of high-quality, responsible, and open science. We strive for excellence in advanced cultural and comparative research in the Baltic region, focusing on literature, folklore, music and theatre studies, cultural and gender studies, as well as digital and environmental humanities. Our research is grounded both in knowledge accumulated over generations and in addressing contemporary issues, where critical theories, interdisciplinary approaches, international collaboration, and global academic dialogue play an essential role.
In the international evaluation of research institutions for the period 2019–2024, the Institute received the highest possible assessment and was recognised for excellence.
