University of Latvia students can go on a study and/or traineeship short-term mobility (5 to 30 days) or participate in a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP).

Short-term mobility (physical part 5-30 days):

Important conditions for attending a short-term study and/or traineeship mobility:

• study and/or traineeship mobility has to be combined with a virtual component (optional for PhD students);

• in case of a study mobility- at least 3 ECTS should be obtained (in total for both virtual component and physical mobility);

• limitation of total physical mobility period: up to 12 months within one study cycle (BA, MA, PhD).

Blended Intensive Programmes - BIP (physical part 5-30 days):

BIPs are short, intensive programmes using innovative forms of teaching and learning, including a virtual period.

Important conditions for attending a BIP:

• a physical mobility has to be combined with a virtual component;

• virtual component does not have minimum and maximum limits;

• physical mobility lasts 5-30 days;

• a physical mobility has to be carried out in consecutive days;

• at least 3 ECTS should be obtained (in total for both virtual component and physical mobility).

Funding for short-term mobility activities is granted for:

• individual support;

• support for travel costs, if applicable.

Individual support:

• EUR 109/day from day 1-14

• EUR 76/day from day 15-30

Mobility participants can receive an additional travel support for a maximum of 2 travel days, if applicable.

No individual support and/or travel costs are granted for the virtual mobility period.

The grant is paid by the home university.

All mobility participants receive additional financial support for travel expenses, depending on the distance from Riga to the city where the mobility university is located. The distance is calculated according to the distance calculator developed by the European Commission. When using Green travel- low-emission or environmentally friendly means of transport - bus, train, car-sharing, bicycle - the additional financial support is higher. If the distance between the sending and receiving institution is up to 500 km, then the journey must be made using a low-emission vehicle. While using green travel it is possible to receive an additional travel support up to 4 days.

Additional support for students with fewer opportunities (for the whole mobility period): EUR 100 - if the mobility is up to 14 days, EUR 150 - if the mobility is longer than 14 days.

Support for students with fewer opportunities who meet one of the following criteria:

  • disability (physical disabilities, mental disorders, intellectual or sensory impairments);
  • health problems that hinder participation in the programme (serious illness, chronic disease), if there are additional medical expenses during the mobility period;
  • cultural differences (reemigrant: has lived continuously outside Latvia for at least 3 years and returned to Latvia within the last two years; student with refugee status; representative of the Roma ethnic group);
  • social obstacles (student is up to and including 23 years old and meets one of the following criteria: orphaned student or student without parental care; student has lived or currently lives in a care institution; student from a large family (in addition to the student, the family has at least 2 dependent children));
  • economic obstacles (low-income family status; student has at least one dependent child up to and including 13 years of age).

* University of Latvia has the right to request official documentation proving that the student meets the specified criterion.
