New Technologies and Innovations Day in 2021.

Is science something otherwordly and unreachable or is it all around us – in the air, water, earth and fire? You will find the answers on 20th of May in the Knowledge Agora, held during the University of Latvia (UL) New Technologies and Innovations Day. The Knowledge Agora will gather university’s students and innovation enthusiasts, who will present their most up-to-date discoveries and achievements.

“The Knowledge Agora is an opportunity of the university’s master’s and doctoral students, and doctoral degree candidates to tell us about their research. This year in the Knowledge agora we will evaluate ideas of new researchers, at the same time it is opportunity to present your work to wider audience, both educating and inspiring others,” director of UL Innovation center Signe Bāliņa explains the idea of the Knowledge agora.

Scientists are welcomed to share their ideas in several groups of themes and to use four elements – the air, the fire, the water and the earth, to tell their story. Therefore the audience will be presented with unusual point of view on wide variety of UL research themes and areas. Researchers have to apply till 10th of May, filling in the application form here.

Participants are asked to prepare five minutes long presentation. After submitting and presenting their work a competent jury will give awards – a one-time scholarship to use for development of research idea. Research ideas will compete on the grounds of idea’s novelty, innovation potential and sustainability.

The Knowledge agora within UL New Technologies and Innovations Day will be organized the fourth time. “This time the motto of New Technologies and Innovations Day is “Science without borders”, that symbolizes university’s values and objectives. Science and development of technologies are not restricted neither by space nor time – they surpass geographical borders, borders of industries and borders of mind. Science knows no limits neither in horizontal nor vertical development. Achievements in science depend only on personal courage and on an open mind,” concept of the Knowledge agora is explained by Signe Bāliņa.

This year New Technologies and Innovations Day will also be the last activity of project “University of Latvia Innovation Grants for Students”. Participants will have the opportunity to get acquainted with achievements of the project - innovations, support to start-ups, cooperation within science projects, excellence within students, doctoral candidates and researchers.

New Technologies and Innovations Day will be broadcasted live. All presentations will be recorded and about each of them there will be a video material made, ensuring also information to press. Every UL master’s or doctoral student who has completed innovative research or is working on such research at the moment, and who wants to inform wider public of his or her ideas, can apply for the Knowledge agora. For someone it can be  stepping stone for promotion of his/her research, for someone it is the next step closer to excellence of his/her research.

Everyone who is interested can also participate as a spectator. New Technologies and Innovations Day will take place in UL Academic centre House of
Science in Riga, 3 Jelgavas street. More information about New Technologies and Innovations Day program and activities: www.tehnologijudiena.lu.lv.
