The University of Latvia (LU) has moved up 50 places QS Graduate Employability Ranking 2020, and ranks 201–250, inform the creators of the ranking.

Higher education institutions are evaluated on five criteria: graduate employment rate, partnerships with employers, employer reputation, alumni outcomes and employer-student connections.

The 2020 ranking compiled the views of nearly 45 000 employers, studying the lives of more than 29 000 personalities in prominent positions with regard to the universities they graduated, reviewed more than 150 000 employers' links with graduates, evaluated university collaboration with employers in more than 320 000 places of internship.

“We are proud that, in the wake of the 100th anniversary of the University of Latvia, the mission set by its founders to promote the growth of Latvian society and the state is being fulfilled in good faith. The high positions of UL in both international and local rankings are a direct testimony to our consistent work to ensure that students have access to excellent higher education and professional skills here, in Latvia. The human is the key to the core values of the University of Latvia,” emphasizes UL Acting Director of Administration/ Deputy Rector for Students and Social Affairs Jānis Stonis.

The University of Latvia has achieved the best result in graduate employment – the 40th place, another good result is attained in the position of alumni outcomes – the 68th place.

For three consecutive years, the UL has also achieved high results in the TOP of study programmes and educational institutions created by the Employers' Confederation of Latvia and the career portal Prakse.lv. The bachelor's study programme “Computer Science” implemented by the Faculty of Computing is the most recommended study programme by the employers in Latvia. The bachelor’s study programme “Communication Science” also ranks among the TOP 10 programmes of Latvia.

In preparation for entering the labour market, students also take advantage of the opportunities offered by the UL Career Centre, attend seminars, consultations and events where employers meet potential employees. For example, the annual Career Opportunity Day will be held on October 18, attracting more than 50 employers.

The first place in ranking have been attained by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (United States), followed by Stanford University (United States), while the University of California, Los Angeles (United States) takes the third place. Riga Technical University has also been ranked in the QS Graduate Employability Ranking 2020, and, like the University of Latvia, ranks 201–250 in the group of universities.
