To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Republic of India, on January 26 the University of Latvia will open the International Institute of Indian Studies. The Institute is formed by merging the UL Centre of Complementary Medicine and UL Centre of Indian Studies and Culture.

The event will begin at 12:00 and follow Indian traditions, honouring Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, art, wisdom, and learning. All those interested are invited to attend presentations by lecturers dedicated to Ayurveda, yoga, languages, Indian classical music and dance, as well as Eastern culture, history and philosophy. The concert of classical Indian music dedicated to the Republic Day of India will begin at 13:00. The event will conclude with an opportunity to ask questions and receive consultations from the teachers. The programmes will be presented by specialists and guest professors, including  the UL leadership, Professor Brahmananda Mahapatra, Representative of the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) in Latvia, Professor Valdis Pīrāgs, Acting Director of the International Institute of Indian Studies, University of Latvia, Professor Mārcis Auziņš, Sergejs Ancupovs, Associate Professor of Classical Music Program in India, Arnis Siliņš, Yoga Training Programme Teacher, executives of India Chamber of Commerce in Latvia, as well as other major teachers, representatives and experts of Indian culture.
