In October, The University of Latvia (UL) has organized the Erasmus Days – an annual international event celebrating the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ programme. The UL Department for International Cooperation invited students and staff to discover the "superpowers" offered by the Erasmus+ programme in the cozy conference hall "Sapere aude".

UL students have been actively using international study and internship opportunities provided by Erasmus+ for many years. "Erasmus+ is not only about studying or conducting traineeship abroad, but also about personal growth, discovering new skills and, as the name of the event suggests, 'superpowers'," emphasized Baiba Pētersone, Director of Department for International Cooperation, in her opening speech.

The event confirmed that Erasmus+ really helps students discover and develop their superpowers – those that help them take a bold step towards new experiences, overcome challenges, and grow both professionally and personally. Student feedback has identified 7 superpowers they have gained thanks to the Erasmus+ programme - openness, creativity, versatility, courage, self-confidence, growth, and independence—skills that are useful not only during their studies, but also in their future lives and careers. Four of these superpowers also visited the doctoral school in the form of two-meter-tall cardboard superheroes. In the future, all these heroes will be displayed in the UL faculties.

University students Gusts and Laura were invited to share their Erasmus+ experiences at the event. Gusts also highlighted his superpower - patience, pointing out that patience with people and processes was required throughout the entire adventure – in communication, documentation, and solving practical issues. Laura, on the other hand, particularly emphasized courage – how to trust and dare. She admits that the experience was nerve-wracking, but on both sides – in Latvia and in Germany, where Laura spent her international study experience – she particularly appreciated the support of her friends, family, and the UL staff in overcoming challenges. Laura also had the courage to dare to believe that, one way or another, everything would work out in the end.

Guitarist Gints Smukais showed off his musical superpowers at the event, creating a heartfelt and inspiring atmosphere with his performance. At the end, everyone was invited to enjoy Erasmus+ cake, which created a real sense of community.

LU invites you to discover your own superpowers and apply for Erasmus+ study or traineeship mobility!
