Pre-Studies Centre of the University of Latvia is an entity of the University of Latvia which has been working since 1957 (up to 2000 as Preparatory courses).
The goal of CPS is to improve students’ readiness for centralized exams, university entrance exams, and university studies.

Our tasks:

  • to provide a chance for school graduates to perfect and consolidate their knowledge in the subjects of centralized school exams;
  • to help applicants prepare for centralized exams, entrance exams, and university studies.

What we offer:

  • processing of applications for centralized exams;
  • 8-month evening preparatory courses;
  • 4-month evening preparatory courses;
  • 10-day course in drawing and painting for the study programme “Art”;
  • Summer school of Latvian language and culture.

Pre-Studies Centre of the University of Latvia offers courses where you can revise and perfect your knowledge in order to get ready for the centralized secondary school exams and university entrance exams.

The courses require a tuition fee, and you can choose one or several subjects based on your interests.

We organize evening courses on weekdays and morning courses on Saturdays.

  • 8-month (long) evening courses will suit those who value thorough and purposeful work, want to prepare properly for their studies, and wish to learn exactly what matches their future plans. We also welcome those who finished school some time ago and now feel ready for further studies.
    Registration takes place in early September.
  • 4 month (intensive) evening courses will suit those who already have a solid knowledge base, learn quickly and accurately, and want to strengthen their skills and gain confidence.
    Registration is open until mid-January.
  • 10-DAY drawing and painting courses will help you prepare for the entrance exams for the study programme “ART”.
    Registration is open until mid-June.

Applicants, who have graduated from school, but have not passed the centralized exam in one or several subjects or those who would like to improve the assessment are offered a chance to take the centralized exams at the University of Latvia at the same time with school students.

Only those who have the secondary or vocational secondary school graduation certificate are allowed to take centralized exams at the University of Latvia.

This program is offered to those with no or little (A1+) to good (B1) prior knowledge of the Latvian language.
