At the University of Latvia, science is both an academic pursuit and an open dialogue with society.
UL's diverse science communication initiatives promote broader public understanding of the importance, achievements, and impact of research on our everyday lives. The University publishes 14 peer-reviewed scientific journals, the majority of which are diamond open access journals. Each year, UL organizes the University Conference, as well as more than 100 scientific events of various scales, bringing together researchers, students, the public, and industry representatives.
The annual UL International Scientific Conference gathers hundreds of researchers and early-career scientists from diverse disciplines. These conferences have become one of the most significant research platforms in the Baltic region. Through initiatives such as the Science Café and the European Researchers' Night, UL fosters an environment where science engages directly with society, reaching several thousand people each year.
