invites applications for two Tenured Professorship positions

in the area of

computer systems security in computer science and informatics, 

with specializations in software security and applications of artificial intelligence in computer systems security

The University of Latvia announces an open competition for two vacancies of tenured professor in software security and artificial intelligence applications in computer systems security for the purpose of increasing competence in the field of computer systems security. The vacancy is related to the capacity of cybersecurity knowledge within the national education system, academic and research excellence in Latvia, in order to promote an increase in the proportion of high-level digital skills for strengthening national security, research development and promotion of entrepreneurship in the field of cybersecurity. The tenured professor is expected to perform high-quality intensive scientific work in Latvia and internationally. The position includes both a motivating salary and support for the creation of a research group.

The tenured professor will be expected to:

  • Create a research group.
  • Conduct high quality scientific research and publish its results.
  • Secure research funding.
  • Participate in educating students by supervising their thesis and delivering study courses (not more than 4 academic hours per week).
  • Build a research-based collaboration with the public sector.

Precise terms of reference along with the performance indicators for each tenured professorship position are specified in the regulation on the competition.

Main qualification requirements for the tenured professorship position:

  • PhD in a relevant field.
  • An internationally recognized specialist in the field who performs scientific research and conducts knowledge or technology transfer commensurate with modern standards.
  • Outstanding performance in research or pedagogical work or any other professional activity.
  • Experience of organizational work and team management within recent six years.
  • C1 knowledge of English.
  • General competencies – leadership, cooperation and persuasion skills, ability to create and strategically and conceptually implement various ideas.

  • Application addressed to the UL Rector.
  • Curriculum vitae including self-assessment regarding the language knowledge, the applicant’s contact information (telephone number, e-mail address, postal address), ORCID iD number, scientific, pedagogical, organizational, as well as other professional work experience, qualification development, major publications, and other information, which more fully characterizes the applicant’s qualification and compliance with the requirements, 2 references.
  • Copies of documents certifying academic degrees.
  • Research plan for the next 6 years in free form, including the specific tasks of the field of work described in the regulations on the competition and expected results (not more than 5 pages).
  • Annex 1 to the Regulation on the Competition for the tenured professorship position: Requirements for the Candidate’s Special Qualifications (.docx) (completed).

What we offer:

  • Salary for associate tenured professor - EUR 5600 per month (gross), tenured professor - EUR 7000 per month (gross).
  • Motivational performance funding for the attraction of international projects.
  • Health insurance.
  • 56 paid vacation days (8 weeks) annually, with the potential up to 10 additional paid vacation days.
  • Initial grant of EUR 30'000 when starting scientific activity.
  • Annual funding for the research group of at least EUR 30'000 (EUR 2'500 per month).
