Kristine Capase Jastrzembska is one of 17 recipients of this fellowship and the first from Latvia. Kristine holds a lot of experience as a professional in-house patent counsel. But still had a desire to move forward and to materialize her vision to bring an impact on global and individual progress by turning inventions into products and bringing them to the market.

The interest in understanding the processes that follow led her to apply for this fellowship which would allow her to dive into the peculiarities of the technology transfer process and to understand why even valuable inventions from a patent point of view are not commercialized and do not enter the market.

During this 12-month fellowship, Kristine will attend several training programs – including the Essentials Course in Kansas City, Missouri and also will benefit from access to the learning platform, experts in the field, and mentors.

Kristine said: The fellowship offers an excellent opportunity to expand horizons and to continue the evolutionary path. With the support and guidance provided by the LifeArc-AUTM fellowship, I will be able to step more confidently directly into the field of tech transfer.

About LifeArc

LifeArc is a self-funded, non-profit medical research organisation. We take science ideas out of the lab and help turn them into medical breakthroughs that can be life-changing for patients. We have been doing this for more than 25 years and our work has resulted in five licensed medicines and a diagnostic for antibiotic resistance.

Our teams are experts in drug and diagnostics discovery, technology transfer, and intellectual property. Our work is in translational science – bridging the gap between academic research and clinical development, providing funding, research and expert knowledge, all with a clear and unwavering commitment to having a positive impact on patient lives.

LifeArc is committed to spending £1.3 billion by 2030 in areas of high unmet medical need.

About the fellowship

The LifeArc-AUTM Fellowship equips academic life scientists, at the graduate or post-doctoral level, with the skills and knowledge to transition into careers in technology transfer. The curriculum combines formal training with networking, mentoring and practical experience in the field.

Since its launch in 2017, this unique fellowship has trained and supported 55 fellows to transition into careers supporting the innovation sector. This year the fellowship cohort will comprise 17 fellows from 5 countries.
