In order to provide doctoral students with soft skills for success in research, academic and scientific innovation, the Erasmus+ project MODEST invites to participate in an international doctoral school.

The training will be organised in three sessions, which will be based on the courses developed within the MODEST project.

The first doctoral school will take place from 14 to 16 March and include the following topics:

  1. Academic Writing for Research Publication Purposes
  2. Modern Approaches towards Creating Successful Presentations for Scientific Reports
  3. Modern Methodology of Scientific Research
  4. Scientific Ethics, Intellectual Property
  5. Projects' Preparation and Management
  6. Internationalisation of Research

The doctoral school will take place in three sessions (each session will have different topics):

  1. 14.03–16.03 (lectures); homework as remote work in groups with remote consultations (approximately 2 weeks); 28.03 – students' final presentations;
  2. 11.04–13.04 (lectures); homework as remote work in groups with remote consultations (approximately 2 weeks); 25.04 – students' final presentations;
  3. 16.05–18.05 (lectures); homework as remote work in groups with remote consultations (approximately 2 weeks); 30.05 – students' final presentations.

Lectures will be given by lecturers from universities of Latvia, Finland, Poland, Russia, Armenia and Belarus: Elena Bazanova, Liliia Gazizulina, Phillip Sangee, Dilbar Sultanova, Dina Shchipanova, Tatiana Sumina, Inga Šķendere, Marek Frankowicz, Aleksandr Golubov, Vasiliy Stolyarov, Irina Kuklina, Sini Karppinen, Gevorg Margarov.

Participation in the doctoral school is free of charge and the working language is English. Students will receive certificates for participation in the doctoral school (3 ECTS).

When applying to a doctoral school, students must write a letter of motivation justifying their wish to participate in this training.

The MODEST (Modernisation of Doctoral Education in Science and Improvement of Teaching Methodologies) project aims to improve the quality of doctoral studies in engineering by modernising the curriculum, optimising doctoral studies, facilitating the supervision of scientific research and increasing academic mobility.

In order to achieve sustainable results, it is planned to develop web platforms and virtual networks using different approaches and information and communication methods. MODEST is a three-year project with the wider aim of enhancing cooperation between higher education institutions in partner countries in the field of doctoral studies in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and the European Research Area (ERA).
