UL invites everyone – from the youngest explorers of the world to experienced researchers – to attend the European Researchers’ Night events at the House of Nature, the House of Science and other UL venues in Riga and Latvia. This year’s theme “Discover your scientist gene!” emphasizes curiosity, creativity and the desire to comprehend the world through science.

The UL Researchers’ Night programme is distinguished by its wide and diverse offer: visitors will have the opportunity to experience the roles of biologists, physicists, linguists, artificial intelligence researchers, geographers, pharmacists, geneticists, philosophers and astronomers.

UL researchers have prepared hundreds of opportunities for researching, activities, listening and learning. Some of the diverse topics that are definitely worth experiencing:

  • Artificial Intelligence and Digital Labs – test your intelligence in competition with AI, learn how neural networks operate, and how AI is used in research.
  • Biotechnology and Microbiology – make the invisible visible, transplant cells, see microorganisms and bioreactors in action.
  • Virtual Reality and Robotics for Children – participate in VR art workshops, program educational robots, and vanquish the escape room.
  • Blue Wonders – hands-on experiments with Prussian blue pigment – from historical paint to modern nanotechnology.
  • Quantum World – lectures and demonstrations on quantum computers and sensors that are changing the future.
  • How to Model a Human Internal Organ – explore organoids, 3D chips and learn about zebrafish as research assistants.
  • Secrets of the Earth’s Entrails – from fossils and minerals to groundwater and earthquake modelling.
  • Healthy Lifestyle Lab – explore nutrition, glucose levels, breathing, foot health and participate in lifestyle research.

The youngest participants (aged 2–7) are welcome to attend a specially created interactive Children’s Room equipped with tasks, constructors, games, physics experiments and animations – a perfect introduction to the world of science!

At the stands of linguists, historians and philosophers, you will be able to learn about digital language research methods, decipher old texts, discuss the history of religion and conspiracy theories, participate in thought experiments on AI and identity, as well as listen to a guest lecture on migration studies by Professor Russell King, Honorary Doctor of the University of Latvia.

The Researchers’ Night events will be held throughout the evening from 17:00 to 22:00 and admission is free. UL will welcome the visitors at the UL Academic Centre Jelgavas iela 1 and 3, Kalpaka bulvāris 4, and other locations throughout Latvia, such as the Baldone Observatory, the Ornithological Centre in Pape, South Kurzeme Region, etc.

More information and the event programme will be available soon on the UL website.

The Researchers’ Night 2025 is part of a European-wide science communication initiative taking place simultaneously in more than 25 countries. In Latvia, it is coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Science in cooperation with scientific institutions, universities and innovation centres.

More information and an interactive map of all the Researchers’ Night 2025 events are available on the portal Research Latvia.
