From 27th of March to 6th April within Memorandum on cooperation between Institute of Experimental and Theoretical Physics of al-Farabi Kazakh National Universityand University of Latvia visit of delegation of Institute of Experimental and Theoretical Physics of al-Farabi Kazakh National University took place. Three researchers from Kazakhstan, MSc. Inesh Kenzhina, MSc. Saulet Askerbekov, MSc. Gulnur Kantay acquainted with the laboratories, equipment of Institute of Chemical Physics of University of Latvia as well as with radiation safety further education programme for using opened and sealed radioactive sources.

During this visit, set of discussions and workshops was organized. The numbers of technical tours to laboratories of Institute of Chemical Physics (ICP), University of Latvia were conducted. Questions of further collaboration on fusion area were discussed. As a result of visit to Daugavpils University, it was decided to consider the possibility of signing the memorandum on cooperation between Institute of Experimental and Theoretical Physics of al-Farabi Kazakh National University, University of Latvia and Daugavpils University on scientific collaboration. The main decision was to establish effective cooperation in the field of scientific research on the development of “green energy”, nanotechnology, training of competent specialists, the implementation of joint research and educational programs, scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals. From 27th of March to 8th April within EUROFusion Engineering project between Karlsruhe Institute of Technologies (KIT, Germany) and Centre for Energy, Environment and Technology Research, (CIEMAT, Spain) in cooperation with University of Latvia post-doctoral student Dr. Julia Heuser (KIT) visited Institute of Chemical Physics. The responsible for the engineering project – Dr. Regina Knitter (KIT, Germany) and Dr. Maria Gonzales (CIEMAT, Spain). Dr. Julia Heuser together with MSc. Arturs Zarins, MSc. Liga Avotina and Dr. Larisa Baumane of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis realized investigations on changes of properties blanket zone lithium silicate ceramics under action of accelerated electron and bremsstrahlung irradiation at different conditions. Raman spectrometry analysis of the samples performed in cooperation with Dr. Natalija Skute and MSc. Aleksandrs Petjukevics of the Daugavpils University. In the frame of the final workshop “Materials for future clean energy source ITER and DEMO” scientist MSc. Inesh Kenzhina reported about activities on investigation of functional and structural materials for fusion applications and MSc. Saulet Askerbekov on high-temperature corrosion of reactor graphites with SiC coating realized in Institute of Experimental and Theoretical Physics of al-Farabi Kazakh National University. MSc. Liga Avotina made presentation about the methods used for material investigation in the ICP.
