On 5 February 2026, the LU Winter Sports Day took place at Žagarkalns in Cēsis, bringing together 417 students and staff of the University of Latvia who chose to spend a winter evening actively in a sporty and friendly atmosphere.

During the event, participants had the opportunity to ski and snowboard, using either their own equipment or gear provided on site. Special attention was given to beginners—qualified instructors were available throughout the event to help participants learn the basics and offer guidance for safe and enjoyable skiing.

The aim of the LU Winter Sports Day is to promote a healthy lifestyle, physical activity, and a sense of community within the LU family by offering everyone the opportunity to spend their free time actively, regardless of prior experience in winter sports. The high level of participation clearly demonstrates that such events are an important and highly anticipated part of LU’s sporting life.

In addition to sports activities, attendees could also take part in a camera-closing activity, where participants had the chance to win prizes provided by the University of Latvia Student Council. This activity added extra excitement and joy, encouraging active involvement and a positive atmosphere throughout the day. The University of Latvia Student Council made a significant contribution to the implementation of the LU Winter Sports Day by supporting the event and enriching it with additional activities for participants.

Thank you to all participants for their active involvement, positive attitude, and sporting spirit.
