Get Ready for the Rimi Riga Marathon with Triathlete Artjoms Gajevskis
At the University of Latvia (UL), we are actively training for the Rimi Riga Marathon so that every participant can feel confident in their abilities, improve their health, and train safely without risking injury. The workouts are suitable for any fitness level and regardless of the distance you plan to run in May. The training sessions are suitable for all fitness levels, whether you plan to run a specific distance in May or simply want to improve your running skills.
Training schedule:
Mondays at 17:15 – Running (easy runs, occasionally intervals)
Wednesdays at 17:15 – General fitness training with a running focus (jumps, ladders, etc.)
The sessions take place outdoors in the LU Academic Center sports area (Jelgavas Street 3).
The training is led by Artjoms Gajevskis – a Master’s student in Sports Science and a member of the Latvian triathlon national team, who competes in international Olympic triathlon events.
Alongside his own professional training, Artjoms also coaches athletes of different ages and fitness levels in triathlon, swimming, and running at the “Triathlon Academy.” He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science and has completed the Sports Education Agency’s Category C coaching certification.
Artjoms is a seven-time Latvian champion in the Olympic triathlon distance (1.5 km swim + 40 km cycling + 10 km running) and currently holds the best-ever result by a Latvian athlete at the European Championship – 29th place.
About himself, Artjoms says: “I’m an introvert with a truly extroverted soul.”
Anyone interested can join the training sessions – UL students, staff, alumni, and other enthusiasts. To attend the sessions, a semester subscription is required.
