Law 1 – EU External Relations Law: Eastern Partnership Countries and Russia

The course aims at providing students with a theoretical insight and practical skill that are necessary for in-depth advanced level analyses of EU external relations. The course provides a timely analysis of the current state and recent movements in EU external relations law at a critical point in its development. External relations are currently among the most dynamic areas of EU law, its institutional structures profoundly affected by the Lisbon Treaty. During the course in order to understand legal aspects of EU external relations, EU trade agreements, association agreements and other relevant judicial documents shall be reviewed and explored.

During the course students will perform individual projects during which the examples of the European Neighbourhood policy will be analysed based on the EU trade agreements and other specific arrangements in external relations, in particularly, focusing on EU external relations to Eastern Partnership countries and Russia. As a result students’ projects will present a picture of the complex development of EU legal issues in external relations, including an increasingly active, visible and self-conscious role played by the EU as a participant in the international legal order.

Practical seminars make up a considerable part of course`s contents and students` participation in these seminars will have an impact of their final evaluation of the course.
