Yesterday, biotechnology and bioengineering students from Tampere University visited the University of Latvia’s Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences to learn about Latvia’s biotechnology ecosystem.

As part of the program, students gained insight into the operations of two local biotechnology companies:

Dr. Viktors Romaņuks (NIRI, PrintyMed) shared his experience regarding the challenges of the biotechnological production of spider silk.

Anna Ramata-Stunda, founder of the company Alternative Plants, spoke about work and innovations in the plant biotechnology sector.

The visit continued with an introduction to the research areas at the Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology, as well as the current projects and synthetic biology work of the iGEM Latvia team.
