On 28 May, the staff of the Department of Molecular Life Sciences, Microbiology and Biotechnology, and the Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology gathered to thank Associate Professor Vizma Nikolajeva on her last day at work.

During the meeting, the Associate Professor’s significant contributions to research in environmental microbiology and microbial ecology were highlighted, as well as her long-standing professionalism, support for colleagues and students, and many years of work with the Latvian Culture Collection of Microorganisms. The joint celebration and moment of appreciation took place as part of the “exit” grant, providing the team with an opportunity to come together in gratitude for what has been accomplished.

The Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences extends its sincere thanks to Associate Professor Vizma Nikolajeva for her contributions and cooperation, and wishes her success, inspiration, and fulfillment in her future endeavors.


The awarding of the “exit” grants by the University of Latvia and the Banku Augstskola (School of Business and Finance) takes place in accordance with Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 721 of 5 December 2023, “Rules for the implementation of the second call—‘Grants for the implementation of consolidation and governance changes’—under Investment 5.2.1.1.i ‘Research, Development and Consolidation Grants’ of Reform 5.2.1.r ‘Reform of Excellence and Governance in Higher Education and Science’ within the reform and investment direction 5.2 of the Latvian Recovery and Resilience Mechanism Plan ‘Ensuring the change of the higher education governance model’,” and within the framework of the jointly implemented Recovery Fund project No. 5.2.1.1.i.0/2/24/I/CFLA/007 “Internal and External Consolidation of the University of Latvia.”
