This time, representatives from Estonian microbial culture collections joined the consortium’s founding countries to explore collaboration opportunities and to agree on the creation of a joint microbial resource catalogue—thus facilitating access to microbial resources for industrial and scientific purposes.
The event was opened by Edvards Francis Kuks, a representative of the Ministry of Education and Science’s Department of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, who praised the work of the Latvian National Node to date and encouraged further cooperation. As part of the plenary lectures, Professor Dārta Kļaviņa (Latvian State Forest Research Institute “Silava”) presented the latest research in the field of microbial pathogens in trees.
The Microbial Resource Research Consortium brings together microbial culture collections from eight member states, ensuring a unified research and sustainable use space for microorganisms across the consortium countries. Within the consortium, the Latvian National Node represents Latvia and participates in international research, education, and sustainability activities related to microbial resources.
During the international meeting, representatives of the Latvian National Node and the consortium’s director, Dr. Ana Portugal Melo, visited the Latvian State Forest Research Institute “Silava” and the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment (BIOR). They also met with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences, Professor Kristaps Jaudzems, and Vice Dean Professor Vita Rovīte.
The activities of the Latvian National Node of the Microbial Resource Research Infrastructure, as well as the organization of the event, are supported by the ERDF co-funded project No. 1.1.1.5/3/25/I/011 “University of Latvia and Institutes in the European Research Area—Excellence in Research and Collaboration.”
