Scientific programme
Following the pattern of previous meetings, the 6th PMP meeting will encompass oral and poster presentations, field excursions, workshops and discussion groups together with a general session on PMP functioning and the PMP database management. There will be a dedicated workshop on PMP database concerning spatial variation in pollen deposition in Europe.
Oral presentations will be 20 mins in length and the official language of the meeting will be English. Details of abstract submission will be given in the 2nd Circular.
Scientific programme:
Following the pattern of previous meetings, the 6th PMP meeting will encompass oral and poster presentations, field excursions, workshops and discussion groups together with a general session on PMP functioning and the PMP database management. There will be a dedicated workshop using the PMP database to investigate spatial variation in pollen deposition in Europe.
Oral presentations will be 20 mins in length and the official language of the meeting will be English. Details of abstract submission will be given in the 2nd Circular.
Oral and poster presentations are welcome from all the researchers both those who are familiar with PMP and those who are generally interested in modern pollen analogues, pollen dispersal etc. Particularly welcome are presentations under the following theme headings:
- Calibration of annual pollen deposition data with climate
- The use of pollen deposition data to evaluate models of pollen dispersal
- Spatial syntheses of pollen deposition data in terms over vegetation regions
- Applications of pollen monitoring results to the interpretation of fossil pollen profiles (especially in situations where such results have led to a real re-thinking of earlier interpretations)
- Pollen deposition monitored with modified Tauber traps versus ‘modern pollen samples’ obtained from moss polsters
Two days will be spent in places where pollen monitoring is in progress. The following field excursions are planned:
Full-day excursion to the Vidzeme highland including Gauja national Park*, Sigulda, Taurene*, Araisi Lake Castle, Cesis Tow. For more information about these see:

Half-day excursion to the Kemeri National Park, visit Lielais Kemeri Mire* with unique raised bog vegetation. For more information see: http://www.kemeri.gov.lv/ENGsakums.htm
The asterisk (*) marks places where pollen monitoring is also in progress. There will be an opportunity to visit other sights in the region during the post-conference trip planned for 9th June 2007:
Full-day excursion along the western coast of the Gulf of Riga (Lake Engure Nature Park, interdune mires close Roja, Neolithic site Purciems), to the Kolka Cape, Slitere National Park*, where pollen monitoring is in progress and visit the natural monument "Zilie kalni" (Blue hills).
