The Department of English Studies and the Centre for Applied Linguistics in cooperation with the Department of Romance Studies at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Latvia are pleased to announce the Second Call for Papers of the 4th International Symposium on Language for International Communication (LINCS 2019).

Already for the fourth time in the last eight years the symposium will bring together scholars and practitioners representing various areas of linguistics, literature and culture to share their recent findings and revelations on the role of languages in international communication.  In the Second Call for Papers we are pleased to announce the themes of the presentations that our keynote speakers have kindly agreed to give at the symposium:
  • Zoltán Kövecses (Eötvös Loránd University, Hungary) Metaphor in (international) communication
  • Kornelia Slavova (St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, Bulgaria) English Studies Beyond Binaries and Borders: A TRANS-formation
  • Ina Druviete (University of Latvia, Latvia) Language as value in a pragmatic world: global, regional and national approach
  • Alla Placinska (University of Latvia, Latvia) Rhetorical analysis of political discourse in situations of conflict: the current Catalan context
The working languages of the symposium are English, French and Spanish. The symposium will be held at the University of Latvia in Riga, Latvia on April 11-12, 2019.
