In the context of LatvianBeerfest 2017, held from 24.-28.05., conference on the hot topics of Latvian beer industry was held (24.05.2017). Approximately 80 participants took part in the conference, among them: home, micro, medium and large scale industrial brewers, scholars and students.

As an invited speaker of the conference,  Janis Liepins shared some insights on yeast stress physiology, and how it relates to brewing process. He identified and discussed   stresses which affect yeast survival during brewing process and beer maturation. Also he spoke on the principles and  methods how to assess yeast viability.

Our history counts many research directions including soil microbiology, setting up a lysine factory, application of microorganisms for ecological tasks, production of valuable substances from waste, cell physiology, food biotechnology, medical applications, systems biology, mathematical modeling and other approaches.
