Course abstract:
The course aims to encourage academic debate on topical issues in Canadian history, politics and culture and enhance the attendees’ knowledge of topical methodological and conceptual issues in Canadian studies. The course introduces identity research in the Canadian context, thus developing the analytical and research skills of attendees. Attendees are introduced to the topicalities in Canada and discuss their reflection in the media and literary discourse in the context of anglophone and francophone culture.

Course abstract:
The aim of this study course is to give both theoretical and practical knowledge of how to care for houseplants. Participants of the study course will gain knowledge about conditions that are required for growing different kind of indoor plants and how to choose the right plants for specific room conditions (light, temperature, et al.). They will also gain and/or improve their practical skills in houseplant soil mixture preparation, plant cropping, plant repotting, plant propagation, indoor plant pest control, fertilizers and indoor succulent compositions planting. Both practical and theoretical lessons will be dedicated to different groups of houseplants – succulents, exotic fruit plants (coffee tree, pineapple, citrus tree, fig, et al.), big plants, bromelia, ferns, carnivorous plants, orchids. All lessons are planned in an interactive form. Participants will have time to exchange their houseplant care experience with other students and to ask their questions to botanical garden plant care specialist Ingūna Gudrupa. Participants can bring their own houseplants to practical lessons. Both practical and theoretical lessons will be in Latvian.

The objective of the course is to introduce students with the basics of teaching methodology in the context of modern educational theories and practice. During the course students will gain knowledge necessary for profession of a chemistry teacher and basic practical skills for the planning and management of chemistry teaching process.
