Course abstract:
The purpose of the course is to provide and promote students’ understanding, refine a knowledge, facilitate skills and attitude on civil protection issues. Course examines the role of civil protection system in Latvia (also its framework in the EU and NATO), the organization and management structure, and main tasks of the system’s subjects. The course explores the disaster management principles and planning aspects, analyses the legal and practical measures of cooperation among state, local government and other stakeholders during disaster situations, opportunities of involvement of resources. Course gives an insight on possible daily dangerous situations and threats, considers and provides safe behavior principles and actions during such situations. The course describes the role, aim and task of early warning and notification system. The course ensures that students are familiar and aware about the role of media (social networks) and its impact on information dissemination during the emergency situations and disasters. Course ensures that students obtain general knowledge on disaster medical system and the role of first aid. The course is developed in accordance to national legislation prescribed for minimum requirements for the content of civil protection course.

Course abstract:
The aim of the course is to promote the development of responsible attitude in students towards safety rules and to familiarize students with work safety organization and methods of preventing environment pollution. Chemical, physical, biological, mechamical, ergonomical, and psychosocial risk factors in work environment are thoroughly explained, and rules of chemical, fire, explosion,radiation, and electrical safety are discussed. Particular attention is called to safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals, as well as to preventing and dealing with accidents in chemistry laboratory.

Course abstract:
Basic course is 14 hours, it is intended for personnel who work with radiation generating equipments with a dose rate one meter away from the source of more than 10 Sv / h (Cabinet Regulation No. 508th, 11/04/2002. and Nr.288., 3:07. 2001, in accordance with Cabinet Regulation No. 149th, 9.04.2002. and Nr.152. 8th 04.2003. these workers are required to undergo extended training course, which aims to give staff the necessary minimum knowledge of radiation safety for sources of ionizing radiation user to perform their obligations without harming themselves, other people, and not to pollute the environment. The course includes an explanation of ionizing radiation, its origin, source, units, sources, the resulting dose, as well as the source of the use and protection against radiation. Audience will be introduced to the LR legislative requirements of radiation safety and handling of radiation sources, as well as the purchase, transport and environmental protection. The practical lesson is based on the work of the dosimeters are given in the background and basics of radiation dose rate measurements sources of ionizing radiation posed methodology, as well as practical skills in the radiation dose rate measurement of working time and protection calculations. Course abstract:
An 8-hour course is for staff working at airports with ionizing radiation-generating equipment, whose dose rate at one meter from the source is up to 0.1 Sv / h (Cabinet Regulations No.508, 04.11.2002 and No.752, 22.12. 2015). The aim of the course is to provide airport staff with basic information on ionizing radiation work with baggage control equipment and radionuclide sources. The 3-hour part of the lecture includes an explanation of the ionizing radiation, its origin and the dose produced, units of measurement, sources, application and radiation protection. Listeners are introduced to the legislation of the Republic of Latvia in the area of ​​radiation safety - the use of ionizing radiation sources (JSA), personnel rights and responsibilities, requirements for staff qualifications and health compliance. Acquire inadequate luggage screening measures, ability to explain to clients the security impact of JSA in a concise way. The work of 4-hour practical classes is based on work with dosimetric equipment, the basics are given in the background of radiation and the method of measuring the dose generated by the JSA. The course student acquires practical skills for measuring radiation dose rate, estimating the dose rate magnitude, types of ionizing radiation, their identification possibilities, calculations of working time and protection. During the 1 hour workshop, listeners repeat the basic principles of radiation safety and evaluate individually every choice of test for each response. Courses 'groups are completed taking into account the specifics of the listeners' work, the content of lectures and classes is related to it, paying attention to the JSA used by a particular student. Particular attention is paid to the physical and radiation safety of sources of ionizing radiation, the quality of equipment, workplace and environmental monitoring. Listeners must learn the basic principles of protection against ionizing radiation, paying attention to the assessment of emergency situations and their actions.

Course abstract:
The 8-hour course is intended for personnel working with radiation-generating equipment, whose dose rate at a distance of one meter from the source is 0.1 - 10 Sv / h (MK Regulations No. 508, 07.05.2009 (current rev.) and No. 752, 22.12.2015 (current revision)). In accordance with Cabinet Regulation No. 149., 18.03.2006. (current rev.) and No.152. July 5, 2009 (topical red.), these employees have to undergo an extended training course on radiation safety. The course includes theoretical and practical training on safe working methods, protective equipment and radiation safety. Course lectures include topics on ionizing radiation (IR), its origin and doses, units, sources and applications, providing insight into the latest technologies that use ionizing radiation. The dangers of ionizing radiation and radiation safety measures are considered and the auditors are introduced to the requirements of the regulatory enactments in the field of radiation safety and the provision of health protection of workers. Practical lessons are based on work with dosimetric equipment, basics are provided ni the background of radiation and the method of measuring the dose produced by the IR. The course student acquires practical skills for measuring radiation dose rate, estimating the dose rate magnitude, types of ionizing radiation, their identification possibilities, calculations of working time and protection. Courses groups are completed taking into account the specifics of the listeners' work - adjusting the content of lectures and classes to a specific field of activity, paying attention to the JSA used by a particular student. Particular attention is paid to the physical and radiation safety of sources of ionizing radiation, the quality of equipment, workplace and environmental monitoring. Listeners have to learn the basic principles of protection against ionizing radiation and the assessment of the possibility of an emergency situation in case of them.
