Course abstract:
The program gives ability for listeners to implement biology according to the State education standard, giving an understanding of the biology subject content in nowadays, select and use effective teaching methods (field practice, experimentation, inquire) and resources (information technology), biology content realisation. Listeners will gain understanding of the problems of biology, whose content has changed over the past decade, appreciation of role of biology subject knowledge in students' education, acquirement of skills, attitudes and critical thinking in order to ensure sustainable development of society by learning the natural, social environment and human life-activity correlation.

Course abstract:
The objective of the course is to give to students the theoretical knowledge and practical skills for planning of field experiments and observations, execution, and interpretation of results. The course develops the students understanding about the biodiversity, typical, rare and protected ecosystems, plant and animal species of Latvia. The protection and research methods of species and habitats are characterised. The course provides basic information about responsible governmental and research institutions and about sources of information in nature conservation.

Course abstract:
The course aims are to provide knowledge of biology teaching in primary (general) and secondary education level, and science teaching in primary school.Students acquire the common and specific objectives of science education and biology teaching, understanding the biology teaching principles and strategies (systemic approach, consecutiveness, continuity, gradualness, integrity, diversity, etc.) as well as links of biology with other school subjects, including environmental education and health education as integrated subjects.The course helps to explore the place and role of assessment and evaluation in teaching biology, learn to use different assessment forms and criteria for the improvement of learning and teaching.Students learn to create a variety of formative assessment tasks and develop the appropriate criteria for the assessment of students’ learning achievements, understands the role of student self evaluation in learning and the teacher's role in improving the teaching process, sees the summative assessment goals and knows how to prepare a suitable tests, as well as to develop the criteria of achievement’s evaluation.

Course abstract:
The aim of this Training Course is to impart theoretic and practical knowledge on management and evaluation of student’s practical work in biology. Main emphasis will be on practical skills of use of laboratory equipment in the school for demonstrations and laboratory works. During the study course students are introduced with different media facilities and computer applications. The aim of this course is to impart knowledge about process of natural plant reproduction, as well as the plant propagation, too. During the study course students are introduced to features of plant sexual and asexual reproduction, their applying for demonstration of generative and vegetative plant propagation methods at school. Students acquire knowledge about design and installation of indoor and outdoor plant propagation experiments at school, skills to estimate results of propagation experiments and to accomplish their statistic analysis. A part of the study course focuses on the training of students in the management and development of safe with the school level consistent exercises and laboratory experiments in the field of microbiology and biotechnology.
