Course abstract:
History of ideas is a perspective branch in the historiography of Latvia looking for more interdisciplinary research. Exchange and reception of ideas is a phenomenon that links various levels of history studies and justifies the importance of studies of the history of ideas in general. Theoretical part of the course includes basic principles of the history of ideas while the practical part includes studies of sources related to philosophical, social, political and aesthetical ideas and concepts extended on the territory of Latvia in the 18th – 20th centuries. These sources are linked to collections of the National Library of Latvia and the Academic Library of the University of Latvia in particular. The aim of the course is to train experts able to identify, order and study sources of the history of ideas using skills of processing manuscripts, press publications and academic publications.
