Course abstract:
The content of the programme provides the opportunity to understand the nature of the working environment-based training (WEBT) its role in the vocational education and in preparation of qualified specialists. Participants will analyse qualitative WEBT or practice, organization of a company, legal and pedagogical conditions of cooperation of its employees, teachers and students. The programme provides for the development of communication and contact skills using interactive teaching methods. The programme provides a detailed description of WEBT organization and implementation, analyzing students` learning motivation and conditions enabling personality development. Participants will learn diverse teaching and training techniques and ways for the evaluation of the learning outcomes. The program also includs practical recommendations on time and stress management. The program is offered in full-time as well as in form of distance learning.

Course abstract:
The aim of the course is to promote the development of the professional competence of students’ tutors in order to facilitate the social and academic adaptation of first year students in higher education institution (HEI) thus decreasing the risks for the first year students to drop their studies. The target audience of the course is the academic staff who will perform the duties of students’ tutors in the higher education institution. During the course the participants will have a possibility to improve their understanding about the establishment of the students’ support system, its substantiation and implementation in HEIs of different countries. The participants will enrich their knowledge and understanding about the principles of establishing the study support system; social, psychological and pedagogical aspects of the first year students’ adaptation. The participants in seminars and practical training will improve their skill to apply the pedagogical methods in work with adults as well as consultation, coaching and mediation strategies in work with students, both individually and in groups; will be able to promote successfully the development of students’ study skills, time management skills and the use of stress management techniques. In order to decrease the risks for the first year students to drop their studies, tutors will be aware of and will be able to identify the features of crises (emotional, physical, cognitive and behavioural) and will be able to recommend the support measures appropriate for the particular student. During the course its participants will have a possibility to study independently the additional materials in the e-study environment and discuss them in forums. Lectures will be organized in an interactive form of the experience exchange. Participants will get familiarized with different methods and strategies, will analyse the possibilities and effectiveness of their application in work with the first year students in the HEI. Methodological approaches selected for the implementation of the course will promote purposeful identification of the participants’ experience, the use of the participants’ group dynamics and mutual learning and will promote the participants’ skills to organize a student-centred cooperation process.
