Dance Ensemble "Dancis"

Dancis was established in 1946 by students of University of Latvia. Such excellent professionals, ballet artists as Milda Lasmane, Harijs Sūna, Uldis Žagata, Alfrēds Spura have been leaders of Dancis. Since 1987, the leader of the ensemble is Rolands Juraševskis. The folkdance-instructor of Dancis is Egils Polis, the ballet-master – Sandra Vītola, and the concert master – Māris Šērs.

Dancis has performed in almost all European countries. Since 90-ties it has participated in festivals in France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Turkey, Great Britain and Croatia. The group is the laureate of international competitions in Moscow (1957), Sophia (1968), and Hall (1978). In 1999, it won the Grand Prix in the  2nd International Dance and Music Festival at Fivizano, Italy. Dancis has won several dancing competitions among all folk-dance groups in Latvia. Many former dancers of the ensemble are currently leading other famous Latvian dance groups.
