The symphonic orchestra that was founded in the years of University of Latvia’s foundation, turned into a chamber orchestra in 1978.

Over the years, the orchestra was led by the founder Artūrs Bobkovics, docent L.Slaucītājs and composer E. Lammass, in the postwar years - K.Pūķis, J.Hunhens, D. and V. Gaiļis, composer G. Kļaviņš. Since 2007 the conductor of the University of Latvia’s chamber orchestra is Valdis Butāns. 

The University of Latvia’s chamber orchestra cooperates with choirs and soloists – instrumentalists and vocalists. The concerts have been hosted by the University of Latvia, Premises of the Riga Latvians Society, St. Peter’s church et c.

 The repertoire of the orchestra is continuously improved and includes more than 100 various music pieces, including several first performances. There are at least 3 different programs offered to the listeners per season.

 There are both lecturers and current, former and potential students, that are willingly sharing their time and energy for common playing of music instruments.
