This year during the Riga Summer School, organized by the Communication Studies Department of Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Latvia, students from 9 different countries produced six short films about Teika, Miera Street, Moscow Suburbs, Sarkandaugava, Bolderāja and sweets production facility “Laima”.

The Grand Prix of the Riga Summer School was awarded to “Who Colors Riga?” by students from Italy, Georgia and Moldova. Certificate of Appreciation went to “Teika about Teika” by students from Colombia, Russia, Ukraine and Latvia, and “Dreams from Miera iela” by students from Lithuania, Latvia and Ukraine. “Dreams from Miera iela” also received Audience Award. This year the University of Latvia invited all interested people from Riga to attend the premieres of the summer School films. Now Riga Summer School films can be viewed in different Latvian and foreign festivals, media outlets and internet portals.

The films were evaluated by a jury of professionals, consisting of TV Journalist Adriana Roze, Live Riga representative Ieva Lasmane, Latvian Television Journalist Judīte Čunka, Communication Studies Department Lecturer Lolita Stašāne and Entrepreneur Kristaps Pētersons.

Films that were made in about two weeks feature different faces of Riga, for instance, the diversity of people, history of various places in Riga, people’s destinies, dreams and hopes. Stories were captured on film by students from Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Italy, Georgia and Colombia.

The participants of Riga Summer School represent various fields of study but they are all united by their interest about filmmaking. During the summer school they had lectures by Professor Inta Brikše, Professor Viktors Freibergs, lecturer Dmitrijs Petrenko and Latvian Television Journalist Lilita Eglīte, as well as practical workshops under the leadership of film professionals Dmitrijs Ščegoļevs and Pēteris Sudakovs. The producer of Riga Summer School films is Communication Studies Department Lecturer Kaspars Rūklis.

Already for the second year in a row Riga Summer School was organized by the Communication Studies Department of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Latvia. It was supported by Live Riga and Laima.
