The Centre for European and Transition Studies (CETS) is an institution within the University of Latvia established to promote and support interdisciplinary academic and applied research in European issues for the education of European and non-European students. The Centre's primary focus encompasses economics, political science, law, public administration, and regional science. CETS hosts Jean Monnet and Marie Curie projects, as well as providing advice to public institutions on the economic and social development in the context of European integration. CETS is an internationally recognised forum for debate for practitioners, postgraduates, and academics regarding current trends in European development from the perspective of a new Member State.

Studies by CETS in one of its dimensions, has in recent years, focused on assessments of the implementation of the European Regional Development Fund. Prognoses have been made for the period of 2007-2013. CETS has worked in cooperation with leading think tanks in Europe such as the Centre for Economic Policy Studies in Brussels, ECSA World Jean, many universities in Europe, well as with the Canadian European Studies network.
